Heart Attack in the Gym
Sent in to us from Melissa B. of McAllen, TX
The other day I was at work in a large gymnasium with about 100 excited children (I'm running a summer camp) when a Federal Express Worker stumbled in and mumbled that he thought he was having a heart attack. He sort of collapsed on to the floor. I asked my employees to get the children out of the gym and to call 911. I am CPR/First Aid certified so immediately I began to extend care. We could not tell if he had in fact had a heart attack, was having a heart attack, was about to have a heart attack or it was something else. In any case, he was talking and breathing very fast so I put him a recovery position and waited for the ambulance. He was very scared--VERY SCARED and in pain. His eyes showed me intense fear. Then he began to say, "I'm not going to make it, I'm not going to make it." Immediately, I thought, "He's right! He might not make it!" And at that moment, the seedsower in me woke up! I began to ask him if he knew of Jesus and if he had asked Jesus to save him. I went through the Law. I asked him if he understood how much he'd sinned against our holy, perfect, and righteous God and if he understood his need for a Savior. He looked me in the eyes and said, "YES!" I told him to ask for forgiveness and to ask Jesus to save him from his sin. Although it was difficult for him to speak, he prayed out loud. My heart was racing so fast as I prayed for him silently and encouraged him to remain awake until the ambulance arrived. As the ambulance got there he grabbed my hands and thanked me. I was so anxious to know what happened to him that I called the local Federal Express office and they were kind enough to give me his personal cell phone number. I called and spoke to his daughter. He had a heart attack in the ambulance on the way to the hospital, and had to have surgery. He was in the ICU at first, but he is now in stable condition. I am going to visit him when he goes home, to talk to him about what happened and the prayer he said to Jesus. I've also started working on a letter I want to give him about God sparing his life at this time and what he's planning to do with it. TO GOD BE THE GLORY!
Heart Attack at the DMV
Sent in to us from Chris of Baton Rouge, LA
On Wednesday, May 31, 2006, I went to the DMV to open air preach to the line of about thirty people waiting to enter. I began with the obituary section of our local paper. There were 28 names and photos of individuals that had died in our community and I used it as a springboard for the message. (I saw Ray use a version of this message to talk about why we all must die and how sin and the law ties it all together.) I brought them through the Law and explained that I believe most people don't really consider death on a day to day basis because we have plans. Plans for a wedding, graduation, birthdays, and anniversaries and we believe we will be there. I asked them to look and see if they have the date of their death on their day planners or calendars. I told them of the grace of God and how Jesus satisfied God's judgment in our place. When I was finished, I handed out tracts and Bibles to anyone who wanted them. It was two minutes till the DMV would open, so I hung around to pick up any tracts that people might have thrown on the ground. But just moments after the line of people began going in, a woman came out and was frantically looking down the street. I asked her if everything was alright and she said one of the women in the line was having a heart attack. They had called an ambulance and she was standing outside to flag it down when it arrived. All the people in that line were watching as EMS loaded this woman onto the gurney and wheeled her out to the ambulance. I prayed for her physical health as well as her soul. I do not know if she survived, but if she did I wonder what kind of conversation she had with her family when they got to see her. I wonder what went through the minds of the others in line as they saw for themselves how fragile life is. That was the weirdest thing that has ever happened to me to date as a witness for Jesus.
