I’m amazed at how much my blog is like preaching in the open air. I have regular hecklers that are the life of the party, and I have an audience that is quietly listening. In both the blog and the open air, I am able to set the agenda. If I want to kick the hornet’s nest, I speak on a controversial subject like “evolution.” If I want to preach the cross, I do so. I am able to steer the conversation either way. So I regularly kick the nest, then I preach the cross. This is because I consider the subject of evolution just a means to an end. It gets attention, so that I can press home my point--that we are sinners, heading for Hell, and we desperately need a Savior. Evolution is just a feather for my arrow. It guides the direction. If I make evolution my main point, I will miss the target completely.
Let me kick the hornet’s nest a little. I am often accused of being deceitful by interviewing university students who don’t really know the facts when it comes to evolution. I therefore had my staff contact a “Distinguished Professor Ecology and Evolutionary Biology and Institute of the Environment” at UCLA. I had them tell this professor that we were looking for an expert who could “give a definition of Darwinian Evolution and evidence that it is true.”
This was her opportunity to be on a program that was on more than 30 networks and was aired in 70 countries. She quickly responded with an enthusiastic “I'd love to help....Do you know yet what sorts of questions you will ask?” I stepped into the picture, said who I was, and wrote: “These are the questions I would like to put to you on camera: 1. What scientific evidence is there for evolution--of one kind changing into another kind? We're not looking for something that has to be accepted “by faith.” We are looking for observable empirical evidence. 2. We see male and female in hundreds of thousands of different bugs, birds, fish, animals, and human beings, each reproducing after its own kind. How and why did this happen, according to evolution? 3. What was in the beginning (the initial causation)? 4. Why are so many evolutionists atheistic in belief, when it is scientifically impossible for nothing to create everything?
Suddenly the excited professor had a change of mind, and said, “I'm sorry. My schedule has recently become totally packed. I cannot consider another thing.” Such is typical of believers in evolution. Press the professed experts, and you will find that (like the university students), they don’t have any answers. However, their faith in the theory is rarely shaken, despite the lack of empirical evidence. This is because of a very important fact.
The theory of evolution gives wholesale license for sinners to sin. It opens the door to conscience-free fornication, adultery, pornography, and unrestrained self-indulgence. It cuts completely the ties to divine morality. Therefore it’s a huge hill to die on. Without the power of the gospel (under the influence of the Holy Spirit), you and I have as much chance of divorcing the sinner from his sins, as you have of flossing the teeth of the male lions at the Los Angeles zoo, at feeding time. It’s not going to happen. Our agenda isn’t primarily to convince anyone that evolution is false. It is to convince them that the gospel is true. To do that we must preach Christ crucified, and we must do it biblically. If you don’t know how to do that, freely listen to “Hell’s best Kept Secret” on www.livingwaters.com
