| A Transformed to Remember - Shreveport |
A few weeks ago a mother of two children emailed Living Waters and asked if Kirk and Ray could visit her home when they were in Shreveport, Louisiana for a "Transformed" Conference, and pray for her husband. They did, and I joined the group that went. As Ray recently said, "It was an experience we will never forget" and those very words are what rang true in my mind as I left Tommy's home.
Battalion Chief Tommy Adams has spent over 30 years as a Firefighter/ Paramedic with the Shreveport Fire Department. He was injured when he fell approximately 10 feet from the top of a ladder truck during a special services event in Shreveport, LA early this year. He received spinal fractures, a head injury, as well as spinal cord damage resulting from this accident. You can read the full story on SupportChiefTommy.com. Before entering Tommy's home we were accompanied by his family and two little dogs that ran out of the house. Ray quickly swooped them up and held them close to his face. I snapped a picture with my cell phone to show my wife later that night. When we entered Tommy's home, his dear wife, Traci, took us to pray for him. It was very memorable. As we stood around his bed, it hit me that amidst all of our zeal and enthusiasm for "Transformed", evangelism, and reaching the lost, are hard and sobering truths like Tommy - who's life was instantly changed forever. It could have been me. It could have been any of us. How often do we forget that there are people all around us that can no longer just get up and go. It was a great encouragement to see the family clinging to Christ and praising God instead of cursing God for His providence. Having the opportunity to see that kind of faith up close is priceless and the wisdom gained from such lessons is often greater than a thousand words. The next day was "Transformed". As always my heart is delighted to see Kirk, Ray, E.Z. and Todd, spread a passion for the glory of God in evangelism. Calvary Baptist Shreveport was packed. I remember looking amidst the 2 story building and thinking "this is teaming with people...there must be well over a thousand folks here!" It turns out that there were hundreds of others in the overflow room. The number of attendees totaled 1700! And Tommy's wife, Tracy, sat in the front row watching the entire event with one of her daughters. The greatness of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is what compels us to share good news with lost souls. The glory of God in the gospel is what makes an event like "Transformed" so necessary for the church. While many sit idly by in churches across our nation and around the world, "Transformed" is one way that God is reaching believers in the pews and pushing them to action. I thank God that conferences like "Transformed" and "Deeper" exist. I am blessed to know this website and also wayofthemaster.com. I have been to a
Transformed conference in Dallas, TX in the Fall of 2007. Over the past year I
have been closer to Christ then ever before. I have been rededicated to Him. My
friends, brothers, and I have taken the Basic Training Course and have gone out
witnessing at Sugar Land, TX at the Town Center near Houston, TX. I know when
I'm witnessing that it convicts their conscience. Also, we know that other
people are doing the same thing at the same place. We ask people if they'd seen
a Million Dollar Bill before and they said,"Yes." It's awesome how other
people are doing this in the same area, too.
I watch Way of the Master on TBN sometimes. I am so glad I know about this. It's
utterly amazing. That would be amazing if you had a Transformed conference in
Houston sometime.
God bless,
Timothy Pickle
