The Power of a Tract

The Power of a Tract

We just concluded our 11th Academy here in California a couple weeks ago and the June Academy participants are now home hopefully continuing in all that they learned.

The day they left, just to end the weekend with a bang, some of the Academy Lady Mentors and Team Leaders joined up with a team of ten others to pass out tracts and engage in one-to-ones in Hollywood at that Sunday's Gay Pride Parade.

We met up at someone's church for a time prayer before going out, then caravanned to our destination.  We parked on the same street, loaded our bags and backpacks with money tracts and a specially designed tracts just for this event.

One of the leaders put a tract together that was on simple pink card stock, with what looked like wedding bells on the front with a text that read: "GOT EQUALITY?"

On the back, it talks about our American constitutional rights and equality... then continues to talk about how we all will equally be judged according to God's holy standard, the Ten Commandments, followed, of course, by the gospel message.

Nothing on the tract said anything about homosexuality, gay marriage, or the like, but those tracts flew out of our hands and in to the hands of both male and female attendees living in homosexual living styles.

Arriving early before the parade started, we began where the parade would later end and made our way toward where the parade would begin. Many of those I handed these tracts to gladly received them, having not yet read the back. And at one point my friend and I ended up breaking off from the rest of our team and hitting up everyone setting up to watch the parade. We covered the entire parade route from where it was to end to where it began and back again.

It was like nothing I have ever experienced!  I didn't really stick around long enough to hear what people had to say after they read the tracts, but my friend had a couple of friendly conversations with individuals out there.

When we later met up with one of our fellow evangelists, and the others that were out there with us at the end of the day, his eyes were blood shot, having been in tears over a conversation he had had with a young lady he'd given a tract to.

She had taken the Million Dollar tract and continued on her way, but ended up sometime later coming back to him later (he had been 75 yards down from where he handing her the tract), imploring him to take the tract back.  Of course he said that he would not take it back and, "We care for you that's why we give them to you."

She said, "I read the back and you're just here to condemn my homosexuality."

He said, "No ma'am.  No where on there does it talk about homosexuality, nor would I speak of it to you."

She told him that he had to take that tract back because she had become very convicted by reading it and explained that she was living in a lesbian life-style.

She said, "I read the back and it talks about lusting and things of that nature."

He said, "Ma'am, that is the moral law of God."

She said, "Sir, I am a Christian.  I'm a back-slidden Christian. I'm aware of my homosexuality. I have read this and I am living in a back-slidden state, but I am a Christian."

He went on to say that she needed to heed God's conviction by repenting, trusting, and committing her life to Jesus Christ alone and that God would then deliver her from that lifestyle. He was able to go through the law and the gospel with her, and told her if she was truly born again that there were many lost people around her that she could give the tract to.

She even ended up thanking him for speaking with her that way and turned and walked away with the tract. Usually we try to engage people like this, my friend was just passing out as many tracts as he could at this event and this fish came "swimming" from 75 yards back to him to "jump in to the boat" so-to-speak! THAT'S THE POWER OF A GOSPEL TRACT!

There were estimated to be thousands of attendees there that day and even though there were others passing out all kinds of other flyers, which covered the ground in certain areas of the parade route, I didn't see even one tract on the ground, and my friend and I alone passed out thousands of tracts.

The parade, of course was quite obscene at times, at which points my friend and I had to warn each other not to look at it.

So God alone knows what impact that was made and we trust in Him that His Word will not return void!

May God be glorified!

I have a question...I once read of a former Nazi who was going to commit suicide
after the collapse of Germany. With the gun to his head he looked down and ther
lay a gospel tract. He read it, accepted Christ as his Saviour and then went on
to pastor in Germany for many years. Can anyone recall this story ...If so I
woulds appreciate all the details you can supply. Thank You.

thank God for this tesmonies.for as many who have opportunities to do God's work
do it for so many blessings await you.
  • Steve Ingersoll  - thank you
I really appreciate this testimony. I have been struggling with sexual sin for
most of my life. recently I have come to finally realize that as this women in
this testimony, I was not a backsliding Christian in homosexual sin, I am mot
saved. This is a plea for prayer as I seek repentance and salvation. I have
lost everything as a result, My wife, marriage, children and my home. Thank you
for this testimony, It helps me know their is hope.
  • Stephen  - OBEDIENCE: The true test of "harvest laborers"!
This is a great testimony about not only the power there is in God's word, but
in the OBEDIENCE of God's people! Thank God these folks didn't follow the
    "isolationist" mentality of

"Patrick Burwell" above. Jesus was called (in a derogatory manner by
those pharasaic "believers" who cared NOTHING for the eternal destiny of
the lost) the "friend of sinners". Considering that there were so many
wicked men and women living in filthy, immoral lifestyles to whom Jesus went,
how can any professing Christian oppose doing what you folks have done in the
guise of "caution about the testimony you present going to filthy
events"? How would these people be reached otherwise? In my 30+ years as a
disciple of Jesus Christ, I have learned that sinners will not come to God
unless saints FIRST "go" to them! That's why it's so significant that
"GO!" is the first word in the great commis...
  • Peter  - convicted
I feel convicted just reading this article about witnessing. Thank you so much.
Saving souls is very important; those with past sexual addiction history should
not attend these types of functions as it may cause them to fall. However,
those who do not have sexual addiction problems need to carry Christ's cross
high even through obscenities since this may be the only chance they hear the
truth. Because of my history, I would have to avoid those events.
  • Patrick Burwell  - Do the Ends Justify a Bad Testimony?
I would caution about the testimony you present going to filthy events.
Glorifying God (not shaming His name) is MORE important even than saving souls.
  • Jesse
Witnessing to the lost is glorifying God by being obedient in carrying out the
great commission. If we don't go to events such as these how then will we reach
the lost? They aren't going to flock to church...
  • Tom  - continue on...
Tracts are a great tool in the arsenal. Let us all pray that God would bring
those in our path that need to hear....faith comes from hearing. One-on-One
conversations are the best. Be prepared and engage those who need to hear the
    gospel.
  • vishal  - The Gospel
Hey Jaanu, I just wanted to share this article with you. Today I was sitting on
the train and a woman was sitting in front of me. A voice said to me Do you
love her and I said yes and than I heard, so you should give a gospel tract to
her than I felt timid. I was fighting not to give her a tract but before I got
off the train I ended up handing out 3-6 tracts to people around me. Than when
I got off of the train I handed out some more and on the way to the 3 train I
handed out some more tracts. Than thought to myself what will a gospel tract
do, is it really worth it? When I read this story I felt so encouraged.
Thought I'd share this with you Jaanu. I love you so so much.
  • Nancy  - Powerful stuff
This shows how important it is for Christians to step out of their comfort zone
and reach out to the lost! Thank GOD for your obedience.
  • Star  - 4th of July Parade
This year I was able to be in the local 4th of July parade in my town, promoting
Vacation Bible School, and for the first time ever, the parade had its first
'gay pride' float. Since we were before the 'gay pride' float, I had my kids
pass out 'million dollar' Spurgeon tracts with flyers for VBS, and people were
holding their hands out for the tracts, as they are appealing. The kids on our
float and I passed out hundreds of the tracts and we didn't find one on the
ground. Even the teenagers liked them!
  • Jess  - Influence Unknown
God knows what influence those tracts had to the people who received them. And
the seed has been planted. So we need not worry about it. God will work
accordingly. We can pray for those people, of course, but we will never know
what really happens to them in the end unless we meet with them again. I think
it says alot when the tracts were kept and other flyers ended up on the ground.
    Hallelujah. ttfn
  • Debbie  - tract
    this is great
