Homosexuality—a Sign of the End of the Age?

Homosexuality—a Sign of the End of the Age?—Ray Comfort

“And as it was in the days of Noah, so it will be also in the days of the Son of Man: They ate, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and the flood came and destroyed them all. Likewise as it was also in the days of Lot: They ate, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they built; but on the day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven and destroyed them all” Luke 17:26-29 (NKJV).

According to the Scriptures, the sins of Noah’s complacent generation were, 1. Great wickedness, 2. Continually evil thoughts, and 3. Violence:

“Then the Lord saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every intent of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart… And God said to Noah, ‘The end of all flesh has come before Me, for the earth is filled with violence through them; and behold, I will destroy them with the earth’” (Genesis 6:5-6, 13).

The chief sin of Lot’s complacent generation is summarized in an article by Greg Koukl entitled, “What was the Sin of Sodom and Gomorrah?” He said:

We know the men of Sodom and Gomorrah were homosexual, ‘both young and old, all the people from every quarter’ ([Genesis] 19:6), to the point of disregarding available women (19:5-8). After they were struck sightless they still persisted (19:11). These men were totally given over to an overwhelming passion that did not abate even when they were supernaturally blinded by angels. Homosexuality fits the biblical details. It was the sin that epitomized the gross wickedness of Sodom and Gomorrah—the "grave," "ungodly," "lawless," "sensual conduct of unprincipled men" that tormented Lot as he "saw and heard" it "day after day," the "corrupt desire" of those that went after "strange flesh."

The question at hand is, was Jesus speaking solely about the complacency of sinners in Noah and Lot’s day, or was He also speaking of the sins of both generations as signs of the end of the age? I believe that the answer is both, and I’m not alone in this belief.

The Pulpit Commentary says of the end of the age:

“Verses 26-28. The bulk of mankind will be given up to a sensuality which the higher culture then generally reached will have been utterly powerless to check or even to modify. Men, just as in the days when the ark was building and Noah was preaching, as in the days when the dark cloud was gathering over the doomed cities of the plain and Abraham was praying, will be entirely given up to their pursuits, their pleasures, and their sins.” (Italics added)

Pulpit Commentary Homiletics:

“Men will act like the antediluvians and Sodomites up to the very time of our Lord's advent.”

The Cambridge Bible for Schools and Colleges speaks of both:

“And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. 26. as it was in the days of Noe] as described in Genesis 7:11-23. The Second Advent should flame upon a sensual and unexpectant world.” (Italics added)

F. W. Farrar (Archdeacon of Westminster) said,

“The gleam of His second advent will flame upon the midnight of a sensual, unexpectant world, as the flood rolled over the festive sensualism in the days of Noah, and the fire and brimstone streamed from heaven upon the glittering rottenness of the Cities of the Plain” (Italics added)

Matthew Henry (Matthew Henry's Concise Commentary) speaks of complacency and sensuality being signs of the end of the age:

“17:20-37: Here is shown what a dreadful surprise this destruction will be to the secure and sensual. Thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed.” (Italics added)

Dr. David R. Reagan (M.A., M.A.L.D., and Ph.D.) said,

One of the many signs that we are living in the end times is the epidemic of homosexuality that is sweeping the world today. Jesus said He would return at a time when society resembled "the days of Noah" (Matthew 24:37).

In his booklet, 101 End Times Bible Prophecies Jim Tetlow says,

“Homosexuality would be flaunted at the end of the age. Jesus warned that the last days would be like the days of Lot who lived in wicked Sodom (Luke 17:28-30). We know that the root of Sodom's sin was pride and complacency (Ezekiel 16:49) as it is today. However, Sodom's lasting infamy stemmed from their aggressive homosexual sin (Genesis 19; Jude 1:7). Today, the homosexual agenda is flaunted and forced upon our entire society.”

Romans 1:26-32 is seen by many as a description of a civilization that eventually gave itself to homosexuality and changed "the natural use" into what is "against nature" (vs 26), "leaving the natural use" of the woman (vs 27). Greg Koukl explains this with:

"Natural" is not determined by what you want sexually, but by how you function sexually. The body was built to function a specific way. Men were not built to function sexually with men.

Homosexuality is unnatural, and homosexuals are said to be "without natural affection" (Vs 31, italics added). In this passage scripture calls the affection they had for each other "vile" (vs 26) and a burning "lust" (vs 27). The phrase "without natural affection" means that they were without the natural affection that manifests in families made up of one man and one woman. There is no “kindred” affection between men. Paul uses the same phrase (“without natural affection”) when informing Timothy of the signs of the last days:

"This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be…without natural affection…” (II Timothy 3:1-3).

The following countries have now legalized homosexual marriage: Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Iceland, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Spain, South Africa, Sweden, New Zealand, Uruguay, France, Brazil, England, Wales and Scotland, with some parts of Mexico and America doing the same.

In an article entitled: “‘Gay Marriage’ as a Sign of the End Times,” Author, attorney, Scott D. Lively said,

“Fifty years ago homosexuality was illegal throughout the entire world, except for Sweden which had decriminalized sodomy in 1938. In the space of just half a century this tiny 1-3% of the population have made themselves a global political power with greater influence in the courtrooms and legislatures of the world than the Church of Jesus Christ. This astonishing transformation surpasses that of Darwinism, Marxism, and even Islam in its speed and breadth of reach.”

In an article entitled “How Same-Sex Marriage Points to the End of the World” Janet Porter (ne. Folger) said,

The one time in history when homosexual “marriage” was practiced was … during the days of Noah. And according to Satinover, that’s what the “Babylonian Talmud” attributes as the final straw that led to the Flood.

Author Tony Peirce said,

Matthew 24.12. He also said it would be ‘as in the days of Noah’ and ‘the days of Lot’ before His return. In the days of Noah we read how the earth was filled with violence, and every imagination of the heart of man was only evil continually (Genesis 6). We read of Lot living in Sodom, where sexual depravity and homosexuality ruled the conduct of people. Lot was ‘who was oppressed by the filthy conduct of the wicked (for that righteous man, dwelling among them, tormented his righteous soul from day to day by seeing and hearing their lawless deeds).’ (2 Peter 2.7-8). This is happening all over the world.

“So you also, when you see these things happening, know that the kingdom of God is near” (Luke 21:31). ***
